PLAIN VANILLA SERANGOON GARDENS
COMPLETED
FUNCTION: F&B, Bakery Café
AREA: 163.6 sqm
LOCATION: Singapore, 55 Serangoon Garden Wy
Serangoon Garden Estate was historically known as “Ang Sar Lee” (红砂厘), named after the many red zinc roofs that once sheltered the neighbourhood’s homes. This distinctive roofscape became both a visual memory and a cultural marker—one that quietly shaped the character of the estate.
We drew inspiration and repurposed this roofing element as both a visual anchor and a storytelling device, inviting guests to look upward and reconnect with the estate’s past. Subtle, integrated lighting highlights the rhythm of the corrugation, creating shadows and textures reminiscent of the streetscape of old Serangoon Gardens.
Serangoon Gardens was also home to the beloved Paramount Theatre, a landmark that drew residents from all walks of life to gather, unwind, and share in the collective joy of cinema.
Serangoon Gardens was also home to the beloved Paramount Theatre—a landmark that once drew residents from all walks of life to gather, unwind, and share in the collective joy of cinema. In the same spirit, Plain Vanilla aspires to revive this sense of togetherness through movie screenings and communal programmes, offering more than just a place to eat or drink.
It is a meeting ground—for conversation, connection, and shared moments as we invite you under our Ang Sar Lee, and into Plain Vanilla at Serangoon Gardens.
